Homework

Due to the closure of school for the majority of pupils, we are not currently setting homework, as we usually would.  Instead, our pupils at home are expected to engage in online learning between normal school hours, without the added pressure of extra work.

When the school re-opens to all pupils, the curriculum homework, based around our topic, will be posted on Google Classroom and is in a ‘Take Away Menu’ format.

Pupils are encouraged to choose 1 starter, 1 main and 1 dessert and complete these at their convenience over the half term.

The tasks are linked to our curriculum and also set with personal development and community spirit in mind.

Unfortunately, we are still unable to allow pupils to bring their ‘creations’ into school, but we’d love to see photos of them on the Google Classroom.  Here is an example:

N.B. All online platforms are still available to pupils during the school’s partial closure.

In addition, we have a number of online resources, to help you to practise your skills when at home.  These are linked below.  Please see your teacher if you need a reminder of your log in.

Spellings

In year 3, we teach the spelling rules set out in the national curriculum in Autumn term.  In Spring and Summer terms, we use our own Easington Colliery Primary School method of teaching spelling.  Target- Train- Teach is a bespoke programme, which identifies the spellings that pupils are struggling with (Target) and ‘re-trains’ pupils working on the methodology/ concept behind that particular spelling rule (Train) and finally we teach pupils (Teach) to reverse a habitual spelling error, by self-correcting & editing during their written work.  If you wish to help your child with spelling at home, please practise the following words, taken from the word list from the national curriculum for Y3&4.

Reading

In year 3, reading is taught 4 x per week for 30 minutes.  We teach reading with a reciprocal approach, giving the pupils different roles (predictor, clarifier, questioner and summariser), which promotes independence and maximum involvement from pupils, rather than sessions being teacher led.

In addition, pupils will hear a class novel at least 3 times per week, as well as having access to the library every week to choose a book for pleasure.

P.E.

Year 3 PE sessions are on a Tuesday and Wednesday.  PE kit is white t-shirt, black shorts and trainers or PE shoes.  If you don’t have this, casual sport clothes are also acceptable.  We ask that pupils come into school in their PE kit every Tuesday and Wednesday.

Forest School

Year 3 have Forest School on a Thursday.  They will do this one class at a time and every class will get a turn across the year.  In autumn term, Mrs Wilkinson’s class are doing Forest School.  Pupils should come in wearing warm, outdoor clothing and bring a water proof coat.  Pupils will be provided with school water proof trousers.  These trousers will not be shared with anyone outside of their bubble.  Teachers are very experienced in leading forest schools and understand which activities to do dependent upon weather, to ensure pupils are not sitting in wet clothes all day.

Music

Year 3 have recorder lessons on a Tuesday morning.  Due to Covid, these sessions can only take place in groups of less than 15 pupils, in a large open space.  In autumn term, Miss Allan’s class will do recorder lessons.  All pupils will have recorder across the year.
