Religious Education
At Easington Colliery Primary school all children are provided with stimulus and questions that allow them to explore their own beliefs. They will be exposed to major world religions and have opportunities to research the beliefs and traditions that underpin these. We promote the importance of diversity and strive to make children more aware of different faiths, cultures and traditions, both in our local area and around the world.
Through RE children develop their understanding of world faiths, and their understanding and awareness of the beliefs, values and traditions of other individuals, societies, communities and cultures. The children are encouraged to ask questions about the world and to reflect on their own beliefs, values and experiences.
The Agreed Durham Religious Education Syllabus is the basis of our RE curriculum. Teaching and learning should show progression across all key stages.
During key stage 1 children are taught knowledge, skills and to develop their understanding through learning about aspects of Christianity and Buddhism. In key stage 2 children are taught knowledge, skills and continue to develop their understanding through learning about aspects of Christianity, Hinduism and Islam.
All RE is based on knowledge and understanding of religion, critical thinking and personal reflection.
