School Meals
At Easington Colliery Primary School, we run our own kitchens, typically serving around 400 pupils a day.
These include two hot options, sandwiches and jacket potatoes. Food is prepared freshly each day, by our dedicated staff.
Our meals are healthy and nutritious, and are based upon the sample menus produced by Durham County Council. By using their recommended ingredients, we adapt the suggested menu to meet the tastes and likes of our children. We offer a system where children and their parents are able to choose their meals in advance, which helps to ensure that everyone gets their first choice and there is reduced food wastage.
We can only cater for specific dietary requirements on the production of a Doctor’s note. Please contact the school office if your child has any food allergies.
The price of a school meal is £1.95 per day, which is well below what is charged in other Durham schools. Children in Reception to Year 2 receive free meals under the Government’s Universal Infant Free School Meal scheme.

If your child does not wish to take a school meal then you are welcome to provide a packed lunch for your child. This must be in a suitable container and must not contain any hot items as we are unable to reheat food. A copy of our Packed Lunch policy is available in the ‘Policies’ section.
