Year 5 23-24
Anti-Bullying Week
Anti-Bullying Week was Monday 13th November- Friday 17th November. The focus this year was about making a noise about bullying. We discussed the importance of not staying silent about being bullied or the harm bullying causes. We wrote poems about this and some children even created their own rap.
Remembrance Day
To remember those who lost their lives in wars, Year 5 have been analysing poems. We particularly enjoyed 'In Flanders Fields' and 'We Shall Keep the Faith'. We finished our Remembrance work by writing our own beautiful poems.
Black History Month
For Black History Month, Year 5 were looking at the story of Rosa Parks. Year 5 were extremely mature during our discussions and were asking sensible questions about her life and legacy. Following our research, we then wrote biographies.
English
Our class novel for English this half term is Kensuke's Kingdom. Year 5 have been reading this novel and wrote a Ship's Log, as if they were sailing from Australia. The children were really engaged in this work and wrote excellent Ship's Logs.
Times Tables Rock Stars
On Thursday, we got to dress up as rock stars for our Times Tables Rock Stars Launch Day! During the day, we played times tables game and explored our new times tables platforms. The children took part in a Year 5 battle, well done to 5CG, who won our first battle!
The children can access TT Rock Stars at home as part of their homework.
Anglo-Saxon History Day
This week, Adam came into school to work with Year 5. During our fun filled day, we children learnt about the Anglo-Saxons: understanding why they came to Britain, the weapons they used, the games they played and we even got the chance to try some archery!
Dance with Me!
Year 5 had the opportunity to take part in a Dance with Me workshop. The children were taught dance routines to popular songs and danced around with their glow sticks creating a rave atmosphere!
