Year 1
Music Lessons
Over the past few weeks we have had Durham Music Service coming in to share their expert knowledge with us in our music lessons. We have been practising lots of songs with actions which you have probably seen and heard! One of our favourites was Henry's Happy Hairshop. We have been impressed at the musical skills shown from Durham Music Service including their ability to play guitar, piano and ukulele. We are looking forward to continuing our music lessons and developing our skills to become amazing musicians!
Anti-Bullying and Children in Need 2023
What a busy time we have had in school this week! As well as all our usual curriculum lessons this week we celebrated Anti-Bullying week and Children in Need. On Monday we wore odd socks and completed activities in class including designing our own pair of odd socks and matching pictures to what makes a good friend. On Friday we celebrated Children in Need with a non-uniform day and lots of fun activities including creating our own Pudsey masks!
Remembrance Day
This week Year 1 have been learning all about Remembrance day. On Monday our challenge was to make a poppy without any adult help. We then looked at Remembrance day as part of our RE lessons and did some work on this in class. Some of us worked with Mrs Stevenson to help paint poppies which have been displayed in our school grounds. We have then worked together to create lots of poppies to display in our community. We hope you enjoy looking at our work from this week and don't forget to keep a look out in the colliery to see if you can spot any of our poppies! This week Year 1 have been learning all about Remembrance day. Halloween
This half-term came to a spooky end for Year 1. Today we dressed up in Halloween style and carried out some Halloween activities. Here are our costumes for you to see. We pulled a smiley face to show you how sweet and innocent we are and then pulled our scariest faces! We have loved talking to each other about who we have came in dressed up as and the staff at school were very impressed with our amazing costumes!
Coding
This week Year 1 have been practising their coding skills. We have been using the beebots and doing some coding using a minecraft game on the laptops. We have really enjoyed this and can't wait to get the beebots and laptops back out to develop our skills further. Look out for future computing lessons being added to our weekly news!
Boxercise
This week year 1 enjoyed taking part in Boxercise. We had some very talented boxers and loved being able to showcase our skills. We used up lots of energy but had lots of fun doing this. A special thank you to the SSP for giving us this additional PE task this week. We wish we could do this in PE every week!
History
So far this term in History we have been looking at our local area. We have looked at how Easington has changed and looked in more detail at the old Easington Colliery Primary School. We were very fascinated by the pictures to see the differences between then and now. This week we looked at Easington Colliery coalmine and what it was like to work down there. We designed our own pit workers and even made our own Davy lamps.
