Water play

We have really enjoyed the sunny weather again this week. We have spent lots of time outdoors using our beautiful new water area. We have been using our knowledge of water to adapt, use and then analyse how we can transfer water from one tray to another. The children have been fantastic learners showing persistence and resilience within their learning.

We have noticed that lots of children have enjoyed reading the story of peace at last this week. We have looked at the story and identified all the different sounds in the book. We have also completed a sound quiz whereby we listen to the sound and try to identify it using our knowledge of the indoor environment. For example a tap dripping, a kettle boiling or a washing machine spinning. We were all excellent at guessing the indoor sounds.

Fun in the sun

This week in nursery, we have been focusing on our fine motor control. We have practised completing some activities to help our small hand muscles such as cutting, play dough and mark making.
It has been beautiful and sunny this week so we have been outdoors lots. We have really enjoyed making paths for the water to run down. Our favourite activity this week outdoors is blowing bubbles. We have counted how many we could catch and also practised saying letters of the alphabet whilst popping bubbles.
We hope it is just as sunny next week!

A fun week in nursery

In nursery, we have completed lots of different activities this week. We have been investigating technology and applying our skills. We have looked at the beebots and talked about the move it can make. We all had a try at programming the bot to move around using forwards and backwards.

We also have really enjoyed our music this week. We have been singing lots of different nursery rhymes and joining in with the actions. We have also practised playing our instruments fast, slow, loud and quiet. We can identify whether our instrument is a tapper, scraper or shaker depending on the movement we use to make it play.

Outdoor fun

This week in nursery, we have been super busy doing lots of different jobs! Our number skills are getting lots better. We have counted, identified and even practised writing numbers to 10. We have had so much fun in PE using our gross motor skills by using the parachute. Our parachute ball got all the way to 16 bounces before it fell onto the floor. It has been beautiful and sunny this week, so we have spent lots of time outdoors engaging in some really lovely learning. Our dolly babies have been very happy to be outside getting washed, dried and dressed. We are super at looking after our babies both inside and outside in nursery. We have enjoyed filling and spraying in the water tray this week too.

Number fun

This week in nursery, we have been very busy. We have spent lots of time practising our number work together. We have been counting, recognising and finding lots of different numbers to ten. We have looked carefully around our nursery to see the different opportunities for counting, sometimes supported from an adult. We counted pieces of pasta threading this onto some spaghetti remembering to say a number each time we placed one on. We practised on our nursery children's mobile phone to identify and press numbers in a specific order. We were very good at it!

King Charles

In nursery this week, we have been super busy preparing for King Charles' Coronation. We have been bunting making to hang in our nursery ready for our red, white and blue party. We have been colouring lots of pictures to decorate our nursery and have made flags to wave on Coronation day. We have had lots of fun in our group times talking about the King of England and what his job is. We are very interested in the King and have asked lots of fantastic questions to the adults in nursery.

Number fun

We have been super busy again this week in nursery! In group time, we have been looking at numbers one to ten. We have been on a number hunt identifying numbers to find. We were fantastic at this activity. Not only that, but we played number snap, it was a little tricky as there were so many number pairs to find but, we kept trying.
We have also been practising our fine motor control this week, by tearing and cutting. We are getting so much better at using scissors to cut out our artwork.

New sounds

This week in Nursery, we have been really busy with lots of different activities. We have played lots of listening games to get us listening out for different sounds. We have also been looking at rhyming words and seeing if we can find any in our own nursery. Not only that, but we have been on a sound hunt listening out for different noises both indoors and outdoors.

Happy Easter

This week in Nursery, we have been celebrating Easter a little bit early. We have completed lots of Easter activities such as, counting chicks, colouring our own egg picture, reading Easter stories and moulding chicks with play dough. We are going to finish the week by creating some Easter nest cakes, following the recipe and instruction cards. We also are going to go on an egg hunt in our nursery garden. We are very excited!

Little Red Riding Hood

Our story of the week has been Little Red Riding Hood. We have all listened to the story together in one of our group times. We discussed about the main characters in the book and we all agreed that the wolf was not very nice! We then worked as a team to successfully put the different story cards in the right order by recalling the main events of the book.
In the garden, we used our imagination to act out the story and took our basket of food to Grandma's Cottage in the forest. When we got to her cottage, we only found a wolf dressed as Grandma sitting there. We were so scared but worked hard to find Grandma safely. It was fantastic to tell our story in role play.

Comic Relief

Following on from last week,  we have been continuing the Three Little Pigs story in nursery. We have looked at different ways that we can tell the story to our friends. Our favourite story telling method was using torches to create shadows of the characters. We used our story language to retell the main events in the book, practising getting the events in the correct order.

Some of us practised mathematical concepts by ordering the three pigs and houses from biggest to smallest. We really enjoyed this activity.

There has also been a special day this week. We each wore red for Comic Relief. Together, we discussed what Comic Relief was and how we can help others by being kind. We are all in this together!

The Three Little Pigs

This week in nursery, we have read The Three Little Pigs. We have shared our story together using puppets and talking about the different materials used to make the houses. Our story language is developing further as we add words such as straw, stick, and brick. Lots of our friends have used the reading retreat to share the story together using the felt characters. We have also used our imagination and building skills to create the straw house, stick house and brick house in the construction area and added the pig puppets to practise storytelling.

#Aydin's Pizza Parlour

Recently, the children have been very interested in creating a pizza parlour. What started out in our construction area using blocks, small world people and a lot of imagination has blossomed into our very own pizza parlour. One of our very kind parents donated us all the real resources to make our nursery pizza shop, and together we have all really enjoyed taking orders, making pizzas, serving and taking customer feedback. The children have used the area brilliantly, and it has been wonderful to watch their imagination turn into experiential learning over the past few weeks. Thank you again to our wonderful parents, we are always grateful for your support!

World Book Day

This week in Nursery, we have been celebrating reading. Our focus story has been The Gingerbread Man. We have all listened carefully to the story and tried to retell using puppets in our own play. We really enjoyed drawing our own gingerbread man, including the features we have spoken whilst reading the story and role playing in our garden.
Also, this week, we have had our excellent event World Book Day 2023 where we each came dressed as our favourite book character. We had lots of fun sharing each other's special books we brought from home. We even thought of some questions that we could ask each other about our books. For example, "What is your favourite character in your book?" "Why do you like this book so much?"
It has been a wonderful week in Nursery, and we have been very engaged in our stories.
