Easington Colliery

Curriculum

At Easington Colliery Primary School, we aim to provide a curriculum that inspires every pupil in our school.  We are committed to ensuring that all pupils can access and enjoy their learning.  Following a consultation of governors, staff, parents, and of course pupils, we have a clear idea of what we all want from our curriculum, for our children.

Our curriculum is shaped by key drivers:

  • - Equality & inclusion
  • - Meaningful & relevant, experiential & practical, building upon prior learning
  • - Real life experiences & links
  • - Debate & discussion
  • - Knowledge rich
  • - Finding & nurturing talent
  • - Foster a love and pride of local community
  • - Inspire an ‘awe’ of the world
  • - Life ready!

Wider Curriculum

At Easington Colliery Primary School, we have a wider curriculum offer, which is driven by our curriculum drivers (above).  We believe that pupils flourish in outdoor and adventurous environments, as well as during practical learning.

Therefore, in class lessons are as practical and exciting as possible, with a focus on real life experiences.

In addition, our pupils have enrichment lessons, including cookery, forest school, kayaking & canoeing.

Our on-site school garden has raised beds, which each class have responsibility for

We also value trips and residentials as another opportunity to develop teamwork skills and resilience.

In addition, every year group has music tuition from Durham Music Service, with every pupil in year 3, 4 and 5 playing an instrument weekly, in an attempt to find and nurture the hidden talents that we know our amazing pupils have.

Remote Learning Provision

Our remote learning provision can be accessed through our online platform which is Google Classroom. All children have their own login details and have accessed this during lesson last term to familiar themselves. If you require further information about what we offer, a copy of our Remote Education Provision is available here.

We also use other platforms to support children’s home learning such as Century Maths. You can view and access the platforms we use on our Kids Zone page

If you need any support for your child, or have difficulty accessing any of the materials, please contact the school office.
